Moving Checklist

Obtain the booklet 'Your Rights and Responsibilities'
Ask for recommendations from neighbors, friends and relatives
Check with the Better Business Bureau
Find out mover’s responsibilities for damages
Ask if the mover has a dispute settlement program
Obtain estimates from at least three movers
Check whether the mover is properly registered
Find out how and when pickup and delivery will occur
Ask how the mover can be contacted before, during and after the move
Adequately insure your belongings
Be present to answer questions and give directions
Accompany the movers as they inventory your goods
Carefully read all documents before signing
Keep the bill of lading until your goods are delivered
Before the moving van leaves, take a final look through the house
Give the driver directions to your new house
Inform the driver how you can be reached during the move
Be present to answer any questions
Pay the driver according to your agreement
Supervise unloading and unpacking
Note any damaged or missing items before signing documents
