Rapid City, South Dakota. It’s moving week at the Pennington County Administration Building. Beginning Monday, several agencies will operate from a new, larger facility at 900 Concourse Drive. On November 3rd, the Register of Deeds, Commission Office, and Human Resources will all be open to the public at their new site. The Treasurer’s Office, Planning & Zoning, Auditor’s Office, and Equalization Office will all move next week, on Monday, November 10th. Several portions of the building will remain sealed off until the changeover is entirely completed in the following weeks.
The majority of the departments that will be moving in by November 3rd are on one side of the building, and the people who will be moving in the following week are on the other side, so that is how we are treating it,” said Davis Purcell, Pennington County Buildings and Grounds Director.
Relocation office
The relocation is projected to give county offices enough space to grow for several decades. The present downtown structure was erected in 2014 and was immediately overrun, causing parking issues and crowded offices. The new facility provides for future development as the county’s population grows.
“It’s a larger space for us, so we can grow with the county, but we’ll still provide the same great service to the citizens,” said Audra Casteel, Pennington County Register of Deeds.
New County Services Operating Hours
Once fully relocated, all county offices at 900 Concourse Drive will follow a uniform schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Equalization Office, which was previously scheduled to move later, is now expected to open to the public on Monday, November 10, a few days earlier than planned. This increased timeframe reflects progress in the construction and preparation of the new area.
The department will continue to operate at its existing site, 130 Kansas City Street, through Thursday, Nov. 6, following its temporary schedule of Monday-Thursday, 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
The project is ahead of schedule.
“We’re pleased to share that our move is running slightly ahead of schedule,” stated Davis Purcell, Buildings & Grounds Director. “Our crews and personnel worked hard to prepare the new facility, allowing the Equalization Department to finish their relocation and open to the public a few days earlier than planned. This work allows us to minimize interruptions and get everyone established in the new building more quickly.
Pennington County residents and those in the Black Hills needing services should visit the county’s dedicated website for the most up-to-date information on department locations and moving schedules. Residents are advised to visit www.pennco.org/new-cab for maps, moving dates, and the most recent information on the relocation of services in South Dakota.
Operating hour
The migration also results in a shift in operating hours. All offices at the new facility will operate on a five-day work week rather than the present four-day work week, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The new Pennington County Administrative Building is at 900 Concourse Drive, Rapid City.
